Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 14, 2026
1. Who we are
Functions is a nightlife and events social app available at thefunctions.app. It is operated by Functions ("Functions", "we", "us"). Questions about this policy can be sent to us at (626) 941-9705.
2. Effective date and updates
This policy is effective October 14, 2026. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
3. Information we collect
- Account information: mobile phone number, username, display name, bio, profile photo, social links, and account type. Members who joined before phone sign-in may also have an email address on file.
- Content you create: posts, stories, photos, videos, voice notes, comments, and messages.
- Activity: follows, likes, saves, reposts, events you mark as interested, and events you host.
- SMS consent records: which messaging programs you joined or left, when, where in the app, and the wording you were shown.
- Purchase records: when you buy credits, our payment processor handles your card details. We receive a record of the purchase, not your full card number.
- Device and usage data: a random device identifier stored in your browser for view counts, approximate view statistics, and basic technical information like browser type.
- Location you provide for events, such as a city or address.
4. How we collect it
We collect information you enter directly, information created as you use the app, and information from providers who help run the service (for example, delivery status of a text message).
5. Phone sign-in and verification
We use your phone number to create your account and to send one-time verification codes when you sign in or change your number. Verification codes are sent only for security and are not marketing. Verifying your number does not subscribe you to promotional texts.
6. Events, RSVPs, and tickets
When you RSVP, we record that you're interested and show it in the event's attendance count. Hosts can see public activity on their events but cannot see your phone number or SMS preferences.
7. Messaging, social features, and your content
Your public profile, posts, and stories are visible to other users according to your privacy settings. Direct and group messages are shared with the people in the conversation. You can make your account private, block users, and archive or delete content.
SMS Messaging Privacy
Functions collects mobile phone numbers and SMS consent records from users who voluntarily subscribe to our messaging programs. Depending on the program selected, messages may include upcoming event announcements, ticket sale notifications, exclusive promotional offers, event reminders, and ticket-related updates.
Participation in promotional SMS messaging is voluntary and is not required to create an account, purchase tickets, or RSVP for events.
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Mobile information and SMS opt-in consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for their independent marketing or promotional purposes. We may use contracted messaging service providers, including Twilio, solely to process communications on our behalf.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Users may reply STOP to unsubscribe from the applicable messaging program or HELP for assistance.
8. Promotional SMS
We send promotional texts only to numbers that opted in using an unchecked box and verified the number. Your opt-in record, including the date and the wording shown, is kept as proof of consent. You can opt out anytime by replying STOP or in Settings → SMS & Notifications.
9. Ticket and RSVP texts
Ticket and RSVP texts (confirmations, reminders, entry details, schedule changes) are a separate, optional program. If you don't opt in, those details stay available in the app.
10. Service providers
- Cloud hosting, database, file storage, and sign-in infrastructure.
- Twilio, for sending verification codes and text messages.
- Stripe, for processing payments.
- Google, for members who signed in with Google before phone sign-in.
- AI and web research providers that power optional host tools.
These providers process information only to provide services to us.
11. Retention and deletion
We keep account information while your account is active. Deleted posts and events stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days before removal. We keep SMS consent and opt-out records as long as needed to show that we honored your choices. To request deletion of your account, contact us at (626) 941-9705.
12. Security
We use access controls so users can only reach their own private data, and we never show verification codes or messaging credentials in the app. No system is completely secure.
13. Cookies and analytics
We use browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember preferences. We count views of posts, events, and profiles using our own first-party tracking. We do not use advertising cookies.
14. Your privacy rights
You can view and edit your profile, change privacy settings, manage SMS preferences, and ask us to access or delete your data. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using those rights. We do not sell personal information. Contact us at (626) 941-9705 to make a request.
15. Children and age restrictions
Functions is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. Many events have their own age limits (such as 18+ or 21+), shown on each event.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Continued use after an update means the updated policy applies.
